Javi Not Harvy (Book)
Javi Not Harvy is a book written by Tanisha Jalbert. It follows the story of a grey-hat hacker vigilante, Javi, and his quest to find his kidnapped family, infamous for the heavy censorship imposed upon it from The Media Control Department.
Plot
In late December 1999, Javi's family was kidnapped by a mysterious man from the internet. After a sequence of troubling events unfolds, Javi manages to track down the kidnapper, who is revealed to be Harvy. Harvy explains to Javi that he has organised a trial where Javi must solve complex math problems while participating in the FitnessGram Pacer Test in order for him to rescue his family.
This proves to be quite difficult, as Javi fails the challenge almost immediately, but pleads for another chance. He succeeds, and Harvy offers an ultimatum. Javi must choose between saving his family and saving the world from a terrible computer virus named "the year 2000", that would activate roughly 15 minutes later at exactly 00:00 on January 1, 2000.
Censorship
Despite protest from the author of the book, many areas of the book were censored by The Media Control Department following the J-noth incident in which every electronic device fried themselves simultaneously after a computer virus similar to the one described in the book began to spread throughout the Webby. Nobody knows if it was inspired by the book (except maybe the person who sent it out, but nobody knows who they are).
Tanisha Jalbert, the author of the book, made a comment about the censorship: "DATA REMOVED BY THE MEDIA CONTROL DEPARTMENT".
Reception
The book was received well by most people, although some reviews were poor due to sharing similar elements to Watch Dogs (2014) and Taken (2008), although it may just be a coincidence since the author never knew they existed.
Fans of Telltale's The Walking Dead series also appreciated that all of the character's names were directly ripped from The Walking Dead: A New Frontier.
The ending of the story is known by many to be one of the most controversial endings of all time. Details of this ending are not available any more, as all printed copies were destroyed and never published in it's original form ever again.
